ECommerce Website Design and Development FAQ

How does an ECommerce website work?

Purchases made on ECommerce websites are conducted much the same way as a traditional store.

A customer enters the store through the door– a search engine like Google or Bing. The first few steps they take inside are our landing page: this is the first impression of the store they will get. They will be able to tell exactly what you sell from that Landing Page, the same way that a grocery store would indicate what aisles hold what by posting signs above them. From that landing page, the customer can find what they’d like by perusing aisles: these aisles are the links in our navigation. They have a shopping cart to gather the products they’d like, and open an account with your business for easier future purchases.

From there, the customer will come to the register and proceed to checkout. In our case, this would be confirming their items and operating through a payment platform like PayPal, or AmazonPay. This page will be SSL secured and allow them to make a virtual payment.

As their payment completes, the order is placed. This will lead the cashier to thank them for their business–which, for us, will be a “Thank you!” page.

Do I have to host my own website?

That entirely depends upon which platform you’re aiming to use.

WooCommerce–while open-source and free to use–requires their users to host their own domains. As an extension of WordPress, it has the advantage of easier Front and Back end access for web developers… at the trade-off of requiring someone else to host the site. Conversely, Shopify hosts your domain for you. Its major trade-off, then, is not only its subscription-based costs, but a lack of access to the Server for web developers to make changes to your site.

Is ECommerce secure?

Of course. Payment gateways like PayPal, Stripe, or Authorize.net provide your business with SSL pages for easy, secure checkout.

Do You Offer Hosting & Maintenance?

Yes, we offer both hosting and website maintenance.

Hosting
You are more than welcome to select your own hosting and domain name service, and we will work with them during the build of your setup. But, if you want us to take care of that for you, we offer our own hosting packages.

Website Maintenance
If you choose to host your website with us or not, we offer website maintenance services. If your website or hosting ever has issues, if you need to make a change, or there is a security problem, we are there to take care of them for you. Avoid the headaches by having us help you.

Can You Do My Website Advertising?

Absolutely. The Mack Media Group is a full-service digital marketing agency. We offer custom digital marketing plans, built to grow your business.

We offer digital marketing services that include:

Why Shouldn't I Choose a Cheaper Company?

We have seen those ads before too. $600 for a website. Seems like a great deal, but be very careful. There is a possibility that they’ll take your initial payment and run. But, what is more likely is that they will take your money and build your website with a template. They might have different templates to choose from, but the templates will all be generic. The company will ask you for five pages of text and drop it into your template.

You won’t have a custom graphic design. You won’t have interactivity. Your website will not be optimized for search engines. But, most of all, it will look like a $600 website.

Don’t forget that consultations with the Mack Media Group are always free. We might be able to help you from wasting your time and $600.

Our own pricing is customized for the work that you need. To get a better idea, we need to have a phone call to discuss what you are looking for, what you want your website to do and what your budget is.

Our Complete ECommerce Website Design Process

Discovery

Before we perform any web design work, we do our research. We begin by learning about your business with a kickoff call. We gather requirements, objectives, and features that will shape your website. We also research your competitors and any existing design standards specific to your industry.

Planning

We sit down with you and discuss milestones and set a general timeline. Here we begin making a sitemap of the structure of the website itself. We will also design a blueprint wireframes to get a visual of our plan. Next, we craft the site’s user flow, and how to build the site.

Content

You can provide content for your website yourself or have us write it. If you choose our content writing services, we perform keyword research, build page outlines then write the site content. We share the content with you in separate documents, make any necessary revisions and get your final approval.

Design

Once the wireframes and content are completed, we put everything to work. Our Web Design team creates a visual layout of the website’s user interface. The font of text, colors, and any photo decisions are made at this step. After the design is completed we review it with you and make any necessary adjustments.

Development

Next, we enter the nit and grit of the website. The Mack Media Group takes the finalized design and hands it off to our development team. The Dev team programs and codes the website, adding functionality and interactive features. Our websites are built through a content management system (CMS). This is generally WordPress, but we can use the CMS of your choice. After development, the website undergoes rigorous testing and debugging.

Launch

This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. The Mack Media Group setups up your hosting, with us or the host of your choice. We place the website, check performance and speed and do additional live testing. We also check for any potential security issues and make sure your website is ready for visitors.

Post-Launch

After your website is launched, we do not abandon you. You have the option of signing up for a website maintenance program. This offers you protection if there is ever an issue with your website or hosting, or if you want to make changes in the future. If you need help understanding the CMS, we can setup a time to meet and train you. If you looking to grow your business, we can also discuss our digital marketing services.
